Manipur: Fresh Violence Erupts in Kangpokpi District; One Killed in Gunfight

Northeast Desk, 28th April: In a tragic turn of events, fresh violence erupted in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on April 28, resulting in the death of one Kuki-Zo volunteer at Bethel Village under Koubru range. The incident unfolded in the fringe area of the Leimakhong-Kangchup region around 2:30 am on Sunday morning, leading to the death of one individual and leaving three others injured.

As tension continues to mount in the region, women and children from Kharam Vaiphei and L. Phaijang villages were evacuated to safer locations on Saturday evening as a precautionary measure.

In response to the escalating situation, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, imposed a 12-hour total shutdown from 12 noon of April 28 until 12 midnight in the entire Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district. This decision follows the death of a Kuki-Zo volunteer in the Kangchup Bethel Area of Kangpokpi District by armed miscreants earlier on the same day.

The recent outbreak of violence has once again plunged the region into turmoil, prompting urgent measures to ensure the safety and security of residents in Kangpokpi district.
