Manipur Government Forms High-Level Committee to Probe Drone Attack in Koutruk
Northeast Desk, 3rd September: The Government of Manipur has established a high-level committee to investigate the drone attack allegedly carried out by Kuki militants in Koutruk, Imphal West, on September 1. The assault resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to several others, including three police personnel.
The Director General of Police, Manipur, issued an order confirming that militants used multiple RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) via advanced drones in what has been described as an “unprecedented” attack.
The committee’s primary responsibilities include a thorough examination of the drones involved, gathering pertinent evidence, and recommending effective countermeasures. Chaired by Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, IPS, Additional DGP (Intelligence), Manipur, the five-member committee also includes senior officials from the army, air force, and paramilitary forces. The committee has the flexibility to co-opt technical experts as needed.
The committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations by September 13, 2024.
