Manipur Governor Reviews ‘NIK-SHAY’ and Tuberculosis Control Program

Imphal: In a significant move to accelerate efforts in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, conducted a comprehensive review of the ‘NIK-SHAY’ and Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal today.

The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Commissioner (Health) Sumant Singh, State Mission Director of NHM Manipur Dr. Mairembam Dinesh Singh, and State Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Hemlata Thokchom.

During the review, Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh presented an update on the progress made under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukht Bharat Abhiyan, a national initiative aimed at eradicating TB from India. The Governor was briefed on the milestones achieved thus far and the ongoing efforts to control the spread of the disease in the state.

The meeting also focused on evaluating the special 100-day campaign recently announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This campaign, launched by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, aims to eliminate TB in India by 2025. Governor Bhalla emphasized the need for a multi-pronged approach to combat the disease, including increased patient support, the integration of advanced technology and diagnostics, and the exploration of new treatment options.

The Governor highlighted the importance of making the 100-day campaign a mass movement in Manipur. He called for enhanced public awareness and the active involvement of communities to ensure the success of the campaign, which is currently in full swing across the state. The initiative provides TB patients with additional support, such as nutritional aid, vocational training, and access to advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities.

Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh further elaborated on the program’s focus on reducing the stigma associated with TB and fostering community involvement. Efforts to improve the living and working conditions of TB patients were also discussed. Governor Bhalla urged the Health Department to implement timely interventions and called for the cooperation of the public in achieving the goal of a TB-free India.

“This campaign is an opportunity to turn our collective will into action. With robust community involvement and well-coordinated strategies, Manipur can significantly contribute to making India TB-free,” the Governor remarked, instilling hope for a healthier future.

The 100-day campaign is gaining momentum across Manipur, with the active participation of various stakeholders, paving the way for a TB-free future in the state and the country.
