Manipur Govt allots Rs 12 crore to end drug menace in state

Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on February 22 that the state government has allocated Rs 12 crore to combat the drug problem.

In a speech on the budget that was presented on February 22, the Manipur chief minister made this statement.

”The government has allotted an amount of Rs 12 Crore for ending the drug menace which includes Alternative livelihoods and Rs 2 crore for establishing Drug De-addiction centres,” he added.

Sing added that if the drug trafficking issue is not taken seriously, Manipur will turn into an insurmountable security difficulty.

Further, a total of Rs 14 crore has been allocated to increase drug security and support victims of drug abuse through rehabilitation.

Singh later stated that a total of 407 crore is allocated for the preservation and repair of the ecosystem and the forest.

”Protecting our forest and environment for generations to come is one of the most important things we are doing to create a healthier future. A total of Rs 407 crore is provided for the conservation and restoration of our forest and environment,” he added.

Moreover, Singh noted that the budget has allocated Rs 377 crore for forest preservation and Rs 30 crore for the Sustainable Loktak Lake Ecosystem Restoration, Eco-Tourism and Livelihood Development Project.
