Manipur: Gunfight Leaves One Dead; Village Volunteer Found Dead

Guwahati, 27th April: A violent altercation erupted between two groups in Manipur, culminating in the tragic death of a 33-year-old man, as confirmed by police on Saturday.

The confrontation took place at Sinam Kom on the border of Kangpkopi and Imphal East districts on the night of April 26. Tragically, a ‘village volunteer’ who had gone missing following the gunfight was discovered dead on Saturday morning, identified as Laishram Prem.

Meanwhile, in response to the escalating tensions, security forces were swiftly deployed to the area to prevent any further flare-up of violence.

This incident follows another tragic event earlier today, wherein two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives in an attack by suspected Kuki militants in Manipur’s Naransena area. The attack, which commenced at midnight and lasted until 2:15 am, targeted the CRPF’s 128 Battalion deployed in the Naransena area of Bishnupur district.

Sources indicate that on April 27, around 00:45 hours, suspected Kuki armed groups fired towards a village in the Naransena area, resulting in the casualties and further exacerbating tensions in the region.
