Manipur: Injured security personnel airlifted to Imphal after armed militant ambush

Northeast Desk, 2nd Jan: In the northeastern Indian state of Manipur, the border town of Moreh is in the grip of renewed violence. On January 2, unidentified gunmen targeted vehicles, using RPGs, carrying police commandos en route to Moreh near the Myanmar border.

Reports indicate that four injured police commandos and one BSF personnel have been airlifted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. Shockingly, armed miscreants also opened fire at the chopper designated to airlift the injured security personnel.

In response to the attack, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Moreh staged protests against the assault on security personnel by armed miscreants. The injured individuals, namely Maibam Thoiba, Chabungbam Herojit, Kamei Gaohemlung, Mangsatabam Premkumar, and Rabindra Singh, are now receiving medical attention.

This incident follows the outbreak of violence on January 1 in Manipur, where reports indicate that armed miscreants, disguised in police uniforms and traveling in four vehicles, opened fire in Lilong Chingjao. The attack resulted in four fatalities and left fourteen others injured, several of whom are reported to be in critical condition. The situation remains tense as authorities work to address the escalating unrest in the region.
