Manipur: Naga People’s Front Reaffirms Support for BJP Government, Denies Withdrawal Claims

Northeast Desk, 7th June: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has reiterated its support for the Chief Minister N Biren Singh-led BJP government in Manipur, firmly denying rumors of a withdrawal of their backing.

Awangbou Newmai, Water Resources Minister and NPF Manipur state president, addressed the issue on Thursday, stating, “Social media posts about NPF withdrawing support from the N. Biren Singh-led government are false. There’s no truth to it.” Newmai emphasized that the NPF remains a committed ally of the BJP, expressing gratitude for their support during elections and reaffirming the continuation of their partnership.

Newmai also issued a stern warning against those spreading false information, indicating that “legal repercussions await those responsible for spreading this misinformation.” He conveyed appreciation for the BJP’s consistent backing of their candidate, Timothy Zemik, in the Lok Sabha elections, and confirmed that the NPF is actively investigating the origins of these deceitful rumors, ensuring that perpetrators will face legal action as per the law.

The NPF holds five seats in the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly, while the BJP commands a majority with 32 seats.
