Manipur Police Arrest 15 for Theft at NIT Langol, Strengthen Security Measures Statewide

Northeast Desk, 24th May: In a decisive operation, Manipur Police apprehended 15 individuals on May 21, 2024, linked to the theft of construction materials from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Langol and surrounding properties in Imphal West District. This significant breakthrough is part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the region.

The coordinated effort by Manipur Police was prompted by numerous reports of thefts from construction sites in Langol. Acting on gathered intelligence, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough investigation, resulting in the arrests. Authorities have registered a case and are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the criminal network involved.

To enhance public safety and counter criminal activities, security forces have ramped up search operations and area dominance in both hill and valley districts. Measures have been put in place to ensure the smooth transit of essential goods, with 233 and 286 vehicles safely escorted along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively. Stringent security protocols have been enforced across vulnerable locations, including security convoys to protect transportation routes.

Additionally, a comprehensive strategy to reinforce law and order includes the establishment of 125 checkpoints across Manipur. These checkpoints have become crucial surveillance points, leading to the detention of 132 individuals for various violations across the state. The intensified security measures are part of the broader efforts to maintain peace and order in the region.
