Assam Braces for Hot and Humid Weather, IMD Issues ‘Orange Alert’ for Heavy Rainfall

Guwahati, 23th May: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati has alerted residents of Assam to prepare for sweltering heat and humidity over the next few days. With partly cloudy skies prevailing during the daytime and intense solar isolation, temperatures are expected to soar, surpassing 35°C in certain districts. The Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre has indicated that the mercury could rise by 5°C to 7°C above normal levels across various parts of the state until May 25.

Adding to the weather dynamics, the IMD has issued an ‘orange alert’ for May 27, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from approximately 64.5 to 204.4 mm. While the immediate forecast suggests a notable temperature increase in some plains areas over the next two to three days, the RMC anticipates a subsequent drop by 2°C to 4°C within 48 hours.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to combat the expected heatwave conditions and to stay informed about any developments regarding the impending heavy rainfall.
