Manipur Police Arrest Key Members of Proscribed KCP Organizations in Major Operations

Northeast Desk, 17th May: In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police have arrested Laishram Ronen Singh, an active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Taibanganba faction, in Imphal West. Singh, 48, was apprehended for his involvement in extorting money from shops in Paona and Thangal Bazar.

During the arrest, authorities recovered several items from Singh’s possession:

  • One .32 caliber pistol with two magazines
  • Four live rounds of ammunition
  • Two mobile phones
  • One grey side bag
  • A sum of Rs. 2,500
  • One four-wheeler vehicle

In a parallel development, a joint operation by Thoubal Police and the 33 Assam Rifles (AR) led to the apprehension of four active members of the KCP (People War Group) in Yaripok Bazar. The operation, driven by precise intelligence inputs and supervised by ASP (OPS) Thoubal, was spearheaded by OC/CDO Thoubal.

The arrested individuals were identified as:

  • Sinam Bijen alias Mangang Meetei (38)
  • Angom Ingo alias Apa Singh (53)
  • Warepam Jayenta Singh (36)
  • Oinam Naocha alias Max Singh (24)

These suspects were deeply entrenched in the insurgent activities of the KCP (PWG). The joint operation resulted in the seizure of significant incriminating evidence, including:

  • Five mobile handsets
  • Two 9mm pistols with 15 live rounds
  • Five demand letters
  • 20 rounds of 5.56mm and four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
  • One white A-Star car

The arrests mark a crucial step in curbing the influence and activities of insurgent groups in the region. Law enforcement agencies continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of the public while dismantling the networks of these banned outfits.
