Manipur Police Arrest Nine Militants in Statewide Crackdown on Violence

Imphal: In a major crackdown against militancy, the Manipur Police arrested nine active militants from different districts across the state on February 2 and 3, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining law and order.

The arrests were made during a series of targeted operations, leading to the seizure of weapons, vehicles, and other incriminating items.

On February 3, security forces apprehended five active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP – City Meitei) from Mantripukhri Thakurbari under Heingang Police Station, Imphal East district.

The arrested individuals were identified as Laishram Bulu Singh (26), RK Nelson (19), Lairelrakpam Thoiba Singh (27), Kangujam Jebash Singh (28), and Boyamayum Zabirkhan (19).

The police seized a 9mm pistol with a magazine loaded with 11 live rounds, two 36 HE hand grenades, three mobile phones, a sling bag, ₹5,700 in cash, and a four-wheeler from their possession.

In another operation on the same day, an active cadre of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-PRO) was arrested from Yairipok Bazar in Thoubal district. Identified as Sinam Yaima Meitei (45), he was found in possession of a mobile phone and a four-wheeler.

Meanwhile, the police apprehended Khangembam Bipin Singh (50), an active member of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP MC Progressive), from Singjamei Thokchom Leikai in Imphal West district.

He was allegedly involved in extortion activities. Authorities recovered a two-wheeler, a four-wheeler, and a mobile phone from his possession.

Security forces also arrested Pheiroijam Thoiba Singh (23), an active cadre of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), from Irengband Hawairou area in Kakching district.

He was accused of extorting money from the general public in Kakching, Thoubal, and Imphal West districts. Seized from him were a mobile phone, a four-wheeler, a wallet, an Aadhaar card, a PAN card, and a Voter ID card.

On February 2, police personnel arrested Mayengbam Joychandra Singh (24), an active cadre of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), from Wabagai Bazar area under Hiyanglam Police Station in Kakching district. He was allegedly extorting money from civilians across multiple districts. Police recovered two mobile phones and a four-wheeler from his possession.

In a separate operation on the same day, security forces arrested Telheiba Ningombam (31) from Khuyathong crossing near a crematorium under City Police Station in Imphal West district. From his possession, authorities recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine loaded with four live rounds, a mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, and a four-wheeler.

The arrests mark a significant step in Manipur Police’s intensified operations against militant groups, reinforcing their resolve to dismantle insurgent networks and curb criminal activities in the state. Authorities have assured that further investigations are underway to track down more individuals associated with these outfits.
