Manipur: Tallest National Flag in Northeast India Hoisted at Historic INA Headquarters in Moirang
Northeast, 15th August: On the 78th Independence Day, a momentous event unfolded in Moirang, Manipur, as the tallest national flag in Northeast India was hoisted at the Indian National Army (INA) headquarters complex. The flagpole, standing at an imposing height of 165 feet, serves as a proud symbol of India’s sovereignty and a tribute to the country’s freedom fighters.
Moirang holds a significant place in India’s freedom struggle, as it was here, in 1944, that the INA, led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, first hoisted the tricolour on Indian soil. This historic act marked a pivotal moment in the fight for independence, and the location has since become a revered site of national importance.
During the flag-hoisting ceremony, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed his deep pride in the event. “The unfurling of the tricolour at the historic INA headquarters is a moment of immense pride for our nation. This site is a living reminder of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters,” said the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Singh also highlighted the ongoing restoration efforts at the INA headquarters, emphasizing the importance of preserving the original structure while enhancing its historical significance. The newly inaugurated design of the headquarters covers the old building, ensuring that its legacy is maintained while creating a modern landmark that continues to inspire future generations.
The hoisting of the tallest national flag in Northeast India at this hallowed site underscores the enduring legacy of the INA and the indomitable spirit of India’s freedom fighters, serving as a powerful symbol of the nation’s unity and resilience.
