Manipur Violence: UCM Office Torched down by miscreants at Lamphel under Imphal West district; Blast Claims One Life

Northeast Desk, 24th February: In a disturbing escalation of tensions in Manipur, a group of assailants set fire to the United Committee Manipur (UCM) office in Imphal West district during the early hours of Saturday, February 24.

The incident occurred around 12:40 am at the UCM office situated in Lamphel.

This incident follows a blast that occurred on Friday, February 23, near the DM College in Thangmeiband, Imphal West.

The blast site is in close proximity to the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) office. The explosion, reported around 9:25 pm, claimed the life of 24-year-old Oinam Kenegy, while two others sustained injuries, with one in critical condition. The injured individuals are receiving treatment at a city hospital, while the deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Official confirmation of the casualties is pending, and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast. Police presence has been reinforced at the scene as authorities assess the situation. The type of explosive used in the blast remains unidentified.

These incidents unfold against the backdrop of an enduring ethnic conflict that has gripped Manipur since May of the previous year. The region remains tense as authorities work to restore peace and stability amidst the ongoing turmoil.
