Megahaya Assembly Elections: Vincent Pala loses in Sutnga-Saipung constituency, setback for Congress
Guwahati: MPCC president and Lok Sabha member Vincent H Pala suffered a loss in his Sutnga-Saipung district, one of the biggest surprises of the 2023 Assembly elections.
Santa Mary Shylla of the NPP defeated two heavyweight opponents, Pala and sitting MLA and UDP candidate Shitlang Pale. 2,019 votes separated Shylla from defeat.
Pala received 13,395 votes, while Shylla received 15,414 votes. With 8,543 votes, Pale finished third.
On the other hand, Mukul Sangma, the head of the Trinamool Congress, lost to Tikrikilla, along with his wife Dikkanchi D Shira and brother Zenith Sangma, in the March 2 Assembly elections.
However, he is in the lead in Songsak 41.
Sangma was in the lead for both seats in Meghalaya during the early going, but the numbers soon altered, and he was forced to concede.
Sangma stated that the people of Meghalaya were tired of the National People’s Party’s mismanagement and corruption when he cast his ballot on February 27.
”They want change, and I am confident that TMC will emerge as the alternative,” he added.
Political observers are paying careful attention to the elections in Meghalaya since they are anticipated to have an impact on the state’s political climate. On March 2, the election results will be declared, and it is uncertain which party will prevail.
