Meghalaya: Another Suo-Moto Case Filed Against HNYF Leader for Extortion; Ri Bhoi Police Takes Action

Northeast Desk, 4th November: Following the recent arrest of Bless Dkhar, a leader of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) by East Khasi Hills Police, Ri Bhoi Police has filed a Suo-Moto case against him. Dkhar was apprehended for allegedly extorting money from trucks operating on the Umiam-Damsait Bridge.

Ri Bhoi Police Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad, issued a statement confirming the case filed against Bless Dkhar on Friday. While no formal complaints were lodged by truck drivers or owners, Prasad assured a thorough investigation into the matter.

Dkhar’s arrest came after the circulation of a voice note in which he was negotiating with a trader, discussing the collection of ₹1500 per truck, whether private or belonging to the Food Corporation of India (FCI), for passage across the Umiam-Damsite Bridge.

The HNYF East Khasi Hills unit has distanced itself from Dkhar, expressing surprise at the allegations against their organization. Sanbor Rapsang, the disciplinary secretary of HNYF East Khasi Hills, stated that they did not authorize anyone to collect money from the trucks and announced that the Central Executive Committee (CEC) would address the issue.

Until the CEC reaches a decision, the position of the president of HNYF East Khasi Hills will remain vacant.
