Meghalaya: BSF Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth Over Rs 13 Lakh on Bangladesh Border

Northeast Desk, 29th September: In a significant operation, the 193rd Battalion of the Meghalaya Border Security Force (BSF) seized a large quantity of edible items and Nasiruddin Biri (local cigarettes) valued at over Rs 13.37 lakh from the international border in the East Khasi Hills district. Acting on specific intelligence, BSF troops intercepted the smuggled goods, which were reportedly destined for Bangladesh.

This seizure is part of ongoing efforts by the BSF to combat cross-border smuggling in regions like the East Khasi Hills, which are particularly vulnerable due to their porous borders with Bangladesh. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the smuggling network, and more details are expected to emerge soon.

The operation highlights the BSF’s vigilance and its dedication to securing India’s borders against illegal activities. In a related development, the Meghalaya police recently apprehended 10 Bangladeshi nationals in the South West Garo Hills district. Acting on a tip from the 50th BSF Battalion, the police intercepted the group as they attempted to cross into India via an auto-rickshaw near Purakhasia.

Both actions underscore the joint efforts of security forces in maintaining border integrity and preventing illicit activities along the India-Bangladesh frontier.
