Meghalaya Disburses Rs 108 Crore in Scholarships to 50,000 Tribal Students

Shillong, Meghalaya: In a significant stride towards empowering tribal communities, the Meghalaya Directorate of Higher & Technical Education has successfully disbursed scholarships worth Rs 108.83 crore to nearly 50,000 students.

This substantial investment underscores the state government’s dedication to fostering education and skill development among marginalized groups.

The funding for this initiative was a joint effort between the central and state governments. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs contributed a substantial Rs 98.09 crore, while the Meghalaya government chipped in with an additional Rs 10.90 crore.

The scholarship disbursement has been carried out in two installments. The first tranche of Rs 42.32 crore benefited 17,364 students, while the second installment, amounting to Rs 66.67 crore, reached 32,064 students.

Currently, approximately 27,127 eligible students are eagerly awaiting the third installment from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education has assured that the department is actively working with the central government to expedite the release of the remaining funds.

The Director expressed optimism about the timely disbursement of the third installment, emphasizing the department’s unwavering commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of tribal students.
