Meghalaya Elections: CM Conrad’s brother James Sangma loses from Daddengre seat by 18 votes

Guwahati: Cabinet minister James Sangma loses the Daddengre seat by 18 votes.

James Sangma suffered an 18-vote loss.

The National People’s Party (NPP) led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has passed the halfway point, leading in 30 seats and aiming to make history, according to early trends.

According to the Electoral Commission, 63.91% of eligible voters participated in the most recent Assembly elections (ECI).

Out of Meghalaya’s 60 Assembly constituencies, 36 are in the Khasi, Jaintia Hills region and 24 are in the Garo Hills region.

It needs to be noted that voting in the Sohiong Assembly constituency was delayed after HDR Lyngdoh, a former state home minister and candidate for the seat on behalf of the United Democratic Party (UDP), passed away.

Around 21 lakh people cast ballots, of whom 10.99 lakh were female and 10.68 lakh were male.

Moreover, around 369 candidates were in the fray of which 36 were women.

Following the election, the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) had 119 companies deployed in Meghalaya by the Election Commission of India.
