Meghalaya: Former CM JD Rymbai passes away
Guwahati: Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya JD Rymbai breathed his last at the age of 88 today.
Rymbai first became involved in politics in 1983, when he ran for the legislative assembly of Meghalaya on the Congress party’s ticket from the Jirang constituency.
In the same year, he was named deputy speaker of the parliamentary assembly.
He was elected the speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly in 1993.
He became the Chief Minister of Meghalaya on June 15, 2006, a position he held till March 2007.
Meghalaya Chief, Conrad Sangma expressed his condolences on the passing of Rymbai, said,” Pained to learn about the demise of former Chief Minister of our state, Shri JD Rymbai. Shri Rymbai was a great statesman, adored by the people he served. His contribution to the development of our state will always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace.”
