Top LeT commander among 2 terrorists killed in J&K’s Baramulla

Guwahati: A top commander of the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and one other terrorist were killed in an encounter in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The encounter took place in the North Kashmir of the district.

The commander identified as Yousuf Kantroo. He was involved in several killings of civilians and Security Forces personnel including the recent killing of JKP’s SPO and his brother, one Soldier and one civilian in the district.

Based on specific inputs about presence of terrorists, an operation was launched in the village bordering Budgam and Baramulla last night from the Budgam police.

Budgam Police along with the local army unit conducted the counterterrorism operation and the firing continued intermittently during the night.

Following the firing incident, three soldiers and a civilian have received minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the central government has designated at least seven individuals as terrorists in the last fortnight. These include Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, JeM commander Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo, Ali Kashif Jan, Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir, Hafiz Talha Saeed, Sajjad Gul and Al Badr member Arjumand Gulzar Dar.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Jammu and Kashmir Police quoting Inspector General Police Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar wrote, “Top LeT terrorist Commander Yousuf Kantroo killed in Baramulla encounter. He was involved in several killings of civilians and Security Forces personnel including the recent killing of JKP’s SPO and his brother, one Soldier and one civilian in Budgam district. A big success for us.”
