Meghalaya MP Saleng A Sangma Accuses Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma of “Mental Disorder” Over Religious Blame Game

Northeast Desk, 11th June: Saleng A Sangma, the newly elected Member of Parliament from Tura, has launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of suffering from a “mental disorder” for his recent comments blaming a specific religion in Meghalaya for the BJP-led NDA’s defeat in the Lok Sabha polls.

In a press interaction, Sangma didn’t mince words, suggesting that Sarma’s comments indicated a potential mental disorder. He highlighted Sarma’s past discussions about religion during election campaigns and questioned the sudden shift in blame to religion for the electoral loss. Sangma recalled Sarma’s earlier targeting of the Muslim community and questioned the rationale behind blaming religion now.

Sangma emphasized, “You have seen it openly, so why is he blaming the religion right now? He shouldn’t have blamed it on religion, I think, that is why I am telling you he might be having some mental disorder regarding this one.”

The Congress MP-elect from Tura further reinforced his argument by referencing Sarma’s previous actions and statements, pointing out inconsistencies in his recent remarks. Sangma highlighted Sarma’s past criticisms of certain religious doctrines and questioned how he could now attribute the electoral outcomes in states like Meghalaya, Manipur, and Nagaland to religious influence.

Sarma had recently made statements suggesting that the BJP’s electoral setbacks in these states were influenced by a “particular” religion, prompting Sangma’s strong rebuttal and accusations of a “mental disorder” on Sarma’s part.
