Meghalaya: Over 350 mobile towers to be set up
Guwahati: Around 350 mobile towers are expected to be built in Meghalaya to ensure that all communities are connected to the mobile network.
According to officials, Meghalaya has 6,839 villages, 1,164 of which are without a mobile network.
Officials also said that the chief secretary recently assessed the execution of the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) project, which aims to provide mobile internet services to 1,164 rural and uncovered villages in the northeastern state at a cost of Rs 726.65 crore.
A senior Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) official said, “BSNL has approved the putting up of 346 more mobile towers in remote villages across Meghalaya, as well as six mobile towers along NH 42 and NH 51.”
It may be mentioned that BSNL has also sanctioned the construction of 352 mobile towers to provide connectivity to the areas that are currently without it.
