Meghalaya Police Crackdown Nets Drugs Worth Rs 15 Crore in 10 Days
Northeast Desk, 9th May: In a determined effort to dismantle the interstate drug smuggling network, the Meghalaya Police intensified their operations, resulting in a significant breakthrough. Over the course of just 10 days, the East Jaintia Hills district witnessed a series of successful raids, culminating in the seizure of banned drugs valued at an astounding Rs 15 crore.
In a recent operation fueled by specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement authorities in East Jaintia Hills swooped in, seizing heroin and marijuana with a combined value of Rs 3.6 crore. The operation also led to the apprehension of three drug peddlers who were transporting the contraband by bus. The swift and decisive action drew accolades from Meghalaya’s Director General of Police (DGP) LR Bishnoi, who commended the unwavering dedication of the East Jaintia Hills Police in intercepting narcotics worth Rs 15 crore within a remarkably short timeframe.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma joined in praising the efforts of the Meghalaya Police, under the leadership of DGP LR Bishnoi, in combatting drug trafficking. Sangma expressed gratitude for the recent seizure of heroin and ganja worth Rs 3.5 crore and the subsequent arrest of three interstate traffickers.
This latest crackdown is part of a series of successful operations aimed at curbing drug trafficking in the region. Notable achievements include the seizure of high-grade heroin worth Rs 1.1 crore on May 2, which led to the arrest of three traffickers. This was followed by another operation on May 1, resulting in the seizure of heroin worth Rs 10 lakh and the apprehension of a wanted drug smuggler.
On the same day, authorities made a significant breakthrough with the seizure of drugs valued at Rs 2.1 crore, leading to the arrest of a prominent drug trafficker. In a major operation on April 27, the East Jaintia Hills Police intercepted heroin worth Rs 7.2 crore at Rattachera, resulting in the arrest of a key individual involved in drug trafficking.
