Meghalaya Spends Over Rs 576 Crore on Land Acquisition for Western Shillong Bypass
Shillong: The Meghalaya government has allocated more than Rs 576 crore for land acquisition to facilitate the Western Shillong bypass road project, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed during the ongoing Budget Session.
In response to a query from Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, Tynsong explained that land acquisition was carried out in compliance with the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement (RFCTLARR) Act, 2013. The project required land acquisitions in both Ri Bhoi District and East Khasi Hills District.
According to Tynsong, the total expenditure for land acquisition amounted to Rs 121.4 crore in Ri Bhoi District and Rs 455.39 crore in East Khasi Hills District. The names of the landowners and the corresponding compensation details have been shared in a statement presented before the Assembly.
The Western Shillong bypass is a significant part of the government’s broader infrastructure initiative aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the state capital, Shillong, and improving transportation efficiency.
