Meghalaya: Three Killed, Two Injured in Tragic Late-Night Crash Near Kalain

Shillong: A devastating accident late Tuesday night claimed the lives of three individuals when a Sumo vehicle lost control and plunged into a deep gorge near Ratachhera Gate in Kalain. The driver, Jabir Hossain Choudhury, and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Choudhury, a resident of Sonabarighat Part II and the owner of the ill-fated vehicle, was en route from Guwahati to Aizawl with passengers when the accident occurred. Two survivors of the crash were rushed to a hospital in Umling, Meghalaya, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Rescue efforts were conducted by Border Security Force personnel in collaboration with local police, who also worked to recover the bodies and provide assistance to the injured. Authorities are now working to confirm the identities of the two deceased passengers.

The accident occurred on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road linking Assam and Meghalaya, a route known for its challenging terrain. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash and whether road conditions or other factors contributed to the vehicle losing control. The tragedy has left the local community in shock, underscoring the ongoing need for enhanced road safety measures in the region.
