Meghalaya’s Dominic Sangma Wins Best Director Critics’ Choice Award at IFFM 2024 for Garo-Language Film “Rapture”
Northeast Desk, 19th August: Dominic Sangma, a filmmaker from Meghalaya, has secured the prestigious Best Director Critics’ Choice award for his Garo-language film “Rapture” at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024. This accolade marks a significant milestone for Sangma, who triumphed over many established directors in the Indian film industry.
“Rapture” has received international recognition, winning awards at the Malaysia International Film Festival and the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) festival. The film’s global success is further highlighted by its nominations at the Asian Academy Awards and its recognition at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
After gaining acclaim on the international stage, “Rapture” made its long-awaited debut in Meghalaya on August 15, with a premiere in Tura, Garo Hills. The screening was met with great anticipation and enthusiasm by the local community, marking a homecoming for the celebrated film.
