Meghalaya’s Rifiness Warjri Conquers Everest, Third Woman from State to Achieve Summit
Shillong: In a remarkable display of courage and determination, 20-year-old Rifiness Warjri from Meghalaya has etched her name in history by successfully scaling Mount Everest. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet and student of St. Anthony’s College reached the summit of the world’s highest peak on Sunday.
Warjri was part of a 10-member NCC expedition team, whose young members, averaging just 19 years old, proudly unfurled the Indian national flag atop the 8,848.86-meter summit. Her selection for this challenging expedition makes her the only cadet from the entire Northeast region to be part of this prestigious endeavor, underscoring her exceptional capabilities.
This achievement follows Warjri’s earlier successful ascent of Mount Abi Gamin in Uttarakhand, a 7,355-meter peak she conquered in August 2023 as part of her rigorous training. Her Everest triumph places her in the esteemed company of Wansuk Myrthong and Dolyne Kharbhih, making her the third woman from Meghalaya to reach the roof of the world.
Officials have lauded Warjri’s accomplishment as a shining example of the strength, discipline, and perseverance instilled by the NCC. They expressed their optimism that her inspiring feat will motivate more young individuals from the Northeast to embrace adventure and cultivate a deep sense of national pride.
