Mizoram: govt. issues SOP for identification of migrants refugees entering from Myanmar
The Mizoram government has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the identification of migrants and refugees who have entered Mizoram from Myanmar in connection with the military coup.
Many Myanmar nationals, including few police officials of the neighbouring country, have entered Mizoram by crossing the international border for seeking shelter in the north-eastern state, an official said.
A top official of the Serchhip district administration said eight Myanmar nationals entered Mizoram by crossing the international border and are currently lodged at a community hall of Lungkawlh village, just 8 km from the Indo-Myanmar border.
Serchip Deputy Commissioner Kumar Abhishek told news agency PTI that five people, who include members of a family, crossed the international border and entered the district on Thursday, while three others did so on March 3. The district administration has them provided food, clothes and other facilities, the official said.
The Champhai district administration had issued an order on March 1 and asked police and village councils to follow the SOP issued by the state government.
