Mizoram: Heroin worth Rs 6.6 lakh seized in Lunglei district, 2 held

Northeast Desk, 17th February: Assam Rifles personnel, in collaboration with Mizoram police, have made significant seizures in Mizoram’s Lunglei district, indicating a major blow to smuggling activities in the region.

On Saturday, security forces seized 173.2 grams of heroin valued at Rs 6.6 lakh from Lalrinfela (36) and Vanlalremi (47), residents of Chamari in Lunglei.

Acting on a tip-off, the contraband was confiscated and both individuals were arrested on Thursday. This operation underscores the continuous efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb illegal drug trafficking.

In a parallel success, Assam Rifles achieved another breakthrough in its fight against smuggling by seizing a substantial quantity of poppy seeds valued at over Rs 19 lakhs.

Today, a total of 90 bags, weighing 5,400 kg, were confiscated from the Mekbul Road Junction area in Champhai district. The poppy seeds were estimated at Rs 19.44 lakhs.

This successful operation, conducted in collaboration with the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, highlights the commitment of security forces to combat illicit activities and maintain law and order in the region.
