Mizoram: NGT Registers Suo Moto Case Over Stone Quarry Incident
Guwahati: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has filed a suo-moto petition over the collapse of a stone quarry in Hnahthial district of South Mizoram.
The incident’s death toll now stands at 11.
The NGT ordered seven Mizoram authorities, including ABCI Infrastructures Pvt Ltd, which currently owned the stone quarry on a lease to appear before the tribunal on November 28 on Wednesday, November 16, according to officials.
An official announced on Thursday that one additional body has been found at the scene, bringing the total number of fatalities in the stone quarry disaster to 11.
The deputy commissioner for the Hnahthial district R. Lalremsanga said that at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the body of a 25-year-old male from the Lunglei district in south Mizoram had been pulled from the rubble.
According to him, 11 dead have been found at the scene so far out of the 12 people who are still missing from the stone quarry fall.
The victims were aged between 18 and 49 years.
According to the official, the effort is being made to find and save the final missing person who is from Assam.
After a stone quarry caved in in Maudarh village, around 23 kilometres from Hnahthial town, on Monday, it was verified that 12 employees of ABCI Infrastructures Pvt Ltd and other contractors were trapped.
