MLA Ranjit Debbarma Requests High Power Committee to Address Infiltration in Tripura
Northeast Desk, 4th July: In a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, MLA Ranjit Debbarma of Tipra Motha has urgently requested the formation of a High Power Committee to tackle the rising infiltration in Tripura.
MLA Debbarma highlighted the significant increase in the number of foreigners entering Indian territory, particularly through weak points along the Indo-Bangla international border. He emphasized that the current security measures are insufficient, allowing many illegal entries.
“The role of the Mobile Task Force is very frustrating due to reasons best known to them. Over and above, the Government Railway Police in Tripura has been remarkable in their efforts. They have recently detected and detained a large number of illegal foreigners and contraband articles,” he wrote. Specifically, the North Tripura District Police at Churaibari Police Station detained 23 foreign nationals from Bangladesh, who were identified as Muslim Rohingyas from Myanmar.
Debbarma pointed out that these Rohingyas, residing in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar Balahali Rohingya Camp and Lambasia Rohingya Camp, infiltrate Indian territory through Tripura and subsequently spread throughout the country. He expressed grave concerns over the national security threat posed by these illegal activities.
The letter detailed that many foreign nationals have recently entered Tripura’s Sixth Schedule areas, establishing settlements with the aid of illegal documents. Debbarma stressed the necessity of forming a High Power Committee, including officials from the Home Department, District Superintendent of Police, District Magistrate, and a State Level Nodal Officer, to identify and push back these foreigners.
“Given the urgent need to prevent illegal infiltration and ensure national security, I urge you to consider my request on a priority basis,” Debbarma concluded.
