Guwahati: Model Rajkanya Baruah who was accused in the Dispur hit-and-run case that injured nine PWD workers has been granted bail the Gauhati High Court granted on Wednesday.
Baruah has been lodged in Guwahati Central Jail since the last five months. She was arrested in October last year.
She was charged under Sections 279, 294, 388, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code.
The 29-year-old event planner and model was allegedly driving home inebriated after attending a party at a city-based hotel on October 2 late evening when the incident occurred near Rukminigaon.
She was arrested by city police but was released on bail the next day, prompting Assam Police to face backlash on social media.
The model was also summoned by the police, but she declined to appear in front of the investigating officer due to her health.
However, Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) officials filed a report to the police stating that she had no health issues.
It needs to be mentioned that she was later re-arrested on October 6, 2021.
