Mon tragedy: Nagaland govt calls off Hornbill Festival

Guwahati: Nagaland government on Tuesday in the Cabinet meeting decided to repeal the AFSPA and also to make a strong recommendation to the government of India.

The cabinet meeting was held at Kohima where the state government has taken some important decisions on the Oting incident.

The Nagaland government decided to repeal AFSPA and to also to called off the remaining days of the Hornbill festival to express solidarity with the Konyaks and to hold a spirit of oneness with them as they mourn.

It may be mentioned that At least 15  people including one military force lost their lives in a firing incident at Mon district in Nagaland on Saturday evening.

The incident allegedly took place when a group of labourers onboard a pick-up vehicle was on its way from Tiru village and the Army officials opened fire on them, suspecting them militants.

It may be mentioned that after the incident the vehicles of Army personnel were set on blaze by the angry civilians of the state.

However, the cops of the Army had issued a statement where they regretted the loss of lives at the incident.
