Mon Tragedy: Union HM to give statement in Parliament
Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to deliver a remark over the Nagaland firing incident in both the houses of parliament.
At 3 p.m he is expected to address the Lok Sabha, followed by an hour later in the Rajya Sabha. The incident, in which at least 16 civilians lost their lives, has already drawn criticism from opposition parties.
This morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with senior ministers to address the Nagaland violence and the government’s response to the “sensitive” issue.
It may be mentioned that the incident took place on Saturday evening at the Oting village of Mon district of Nagaland where at least 16 people lost their lives.
The incident allegedly took place when a group of labourers onboard a pick-up vehicle was on its way from Tiru village and the Army officials opened fire on them, suspecting them militants.
It may be mentioned that after the incident the vehicles of Army personnel were set on blaze by the angry civilians of the state.
However, the cops of the Army had issued a statement where they regretted the loss of lives at the incident.
