More than hundred children died in Africa

Guwahati: More than a hundred children have died from an “unknown disease” in the last two months in the Gunga area in the southwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

According to national media reports, at least 165 children have died from an “unknown disease” since August in the town of Gungu, Kwilu Province, affecting children up to age five.

However, the health officials claimed that the children were suffering from fever which causes anaemia.

Regional health chief Jean-Pierre Basak was cited as saying that some of the infected children displayed malaria-like symptoms.

Basak further stated that a team of experts from the country’s Ministry of Health has been dispatched to the region to try and discover the cause of the disease and develop protective measures against the disease.

It may be mentioned that the Kwilu health ministry has yet to begin studying the source of the disease and develop countermeasures.
