MP: Villagers shave heads after their “Mannat” of zero Covid death fulfilled
Guwahati: More than 90villagers from Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district had shaved their heads and staged a mass feast at a temple to thank the deity for guaranteeing “zero fatality” in their area due to Covid-19 in 2021.
According to a local, the rite was done on Friday to fulfill a vow made by locals at the Devnarayan temple during the peak of the pandemic. In Devri Khawasa hamlet in the Neemuch district, around 400 kilometres from Bhopal, villagers, including women, took out a procession.
“Around 25-30 villagers were affected when the coronavirus pandemic was at its pick,” they said, clutching religious flags in their hands as they danced to the music of religious hymns.
Talking to the media a villager said that people had taken a ‘Mannat’ (vow) in the ancient temple of Devnarayan ji to tonsure their heads and hold a ‘Bhandara’ (mass feast) if no fatality is reported due to the pandemic in 2021.
