MPSC Releases Meghalaya Civil Services Preliminary Exam Marks Amid Protests, Postpones MPS Interviews

Northeast Desk, 10th August: The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) on August 9 made public the marks of all candidates who appeared for the Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) Preliminary Examination, held in November 2023. This decision came after mounting pressure from the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), which had demanded transparency in the examination process.

The MPSC’s Chief Controller of Examination issued an order declaring the results and also published the answer keys for the MCS prelims. The release of the marks follows a meeting between the MPSC and KSU, after which the commission committed to making the results public within 24 hours. This move was in response to heightened protests, including the burning of an effigy of the commission outside its office by KSU members on August 8.

In a separate development, the MPSC announced the postponement of personal interviews for the Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) under the Home (Police) Department, originally scheduled for August 2019. The commission cited “unavoidable reasons” for the deferment and advised candidates to check their website for updates.

The swift publication of the exam marks highlights the increasing demand for transparency in recruitment processes within Meghalaya’s public services, as stakeholders call for accountability and fairness.
