Murder Accused Surrenders to Police in Assam’s Sonapur

Guwahati, 2nd August: The accused involved in the murder of a woman in Sonapur on Tuesday night has surrendered himself to the police, mere hours after committing the heinous crime.

The individual identified as Hasmat Ali allegedly murdered the woman in the 15-mile area of Sonapur and callously dumped her lifeless body near her house. Hasmat turned himself in at Hajo police station on Wednesday at noon.

The incident came to light when locals discovered the body of the woman and immediately informed the police. Family members of the deceased wasted no time in alleging that Hasmat was responsible for the gruesome murder.

According to neighbors, the deceased, identified as Rita Boro, had an illicit relationship with the accused, which unfolded in the absence of her husband. Witnesses claim to have seen them together on the ill-fated night.

Following the crime, Hasmat went into hiding, remaining untraceable for a brief period.

Meanwhile, fueled by anger and outrage, the local residents resorted to vigilante justice by vandalizing a godown owned by Hasmat in the vicinity. They also staged a road blockade on the 15-mile road, demanding strict punishment for the accused.

As the investigation progresses, the police are currently questioning Hasmat to gather factual information about the incident and piece together the events leading to the tragic murder.
