My Head Hangs in Shame: Delhi L-G On Woman’s Death After Being Dragged By Car

Guwahati: Delhi’s lieutenant governor VK Saxena said his head hangs in shame after a girl died on Sunday in the nation’s capital when a scooter she was riding was allegedly hit by a car and dragged for a few kilometres.

He said that he was shocked at the “monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators.”

Taking to Twitter he said, “My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Kanjhawla-Sultanpuri today morning and I am shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators. Have been monitoring with the Commissioner of Police, Delhi and the accused have been apprehended. All aspects are being thoroughly looked into.”

“Even as every possible support/help and beyond, to the family of the victim will be ensured, I appeal to all to not resort to opportunistic scavenging. Let us together work towards a more responsible and sensitive society,” he added.

The police said that a 20-year-old woman was killed after her scooter was struck by a car and then dragged along the road for a few kilometres while becoming tangled in the wheels on Sunday.

They claimed that after being dragged her condition was so bad, her clothes,her clothes and even the back side of her body were ripped off.

Meanwhile, Swati Maliwal the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) took notice of the incident and informed the Delhi police.

She said in a tweet, “The naked body of a girl was found in Delhi’s Kanjhawala, it is being told that some boys in an inebriated state hit her scooty with a car and dragged her for several kilometres. This matter is very dangerous, I am issuing an appearance summons to Delhi Police. The whole truth should come out.”

She was quoted by saying, “A very disturbing incident has come out. A girl was hit by a car and then dragged on the road. The car was driven by five people who were badly drunk. I have summoned Delhi Police to ask how justice will be provided to the girl. Secondly, I want to ask, despite the girl being dragged for kilometres, no check post was able to catch anything. No one stopped those drunken people. This is a very scary and shocking incident.”

Early on Sunday morning, the Kanjhwala police station received a PCR call reporting the discovery of a car being pulled behind by a body. At 4:11 am, a second PCR call was made regarding the girl’s body laying on the road.

Following that, a search operation for the car was initiated when the police informed the personnel stationed at pickets.

The girl’s body was delivered to the SGM hospital in Mangolpuri, where it was ruled that she had passed away. The body was kept in the hospital mortuary for longer.

Meanwhile, the five suspects were arrested from their homes while the suspected car was also traced down.
