Nagaland | 34 under trial prisoners to be released
Dimapur: A total of 34 trial prisoners across Nagaland recommended for release by the Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC).
The decision of releasing the prisoners was taken in the 2nd Quarterly Meeting of the Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC), conducted by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) for the April-June quarter in the month of June.
According to the reports the Prisoners have been recommended district–wise as 14 from Dimapur, 7 from Tuensang, 7 Others from Longleng, 5 from Mon, and 1 from Kiphire by the DSLAs.
In the meeting, it was recommended to set up a proper COVID Care center for the asymptomatic UT prisoners by the committee. They also advised the Jail authorities to take care of the safety and also to closely monitor the released prisoners.
Wokha DLSA conducted the meeting on June 9, where it is mentioned that no UTP was seen to be requiring immediate medical attention, and no presently no UTP was eligible for bail. At present, the district jail constitutes 13 UTPs.
Also, in the Zunheboto district, there are 16 UTPs and 3 convicts and as per the meeting held on July 2, none of the UTPs are recommended for release.
However, the committee recommended setting up a separate COVID center with proper security.
