Nagaland: Angami Public Organisation Renounces State-Wide Bandh By NPAC
Guwahati: The Naga People’s Action Committee (NPAC) planned a 6-hour bandh for the entire state of Nagaland on January 14. The Angami Public Organization (APO) disagreed.
Notably, the APO declared in a statement that its jurisdiction does not extend to enforcing the NTAC orders to hold the proposed bandh on January 14.
The APO said that the apex tribal groups have neither mandated nor endorsed the NPAC. As a result, they lacked the power to issue orders to the highest tribal bodies.
Earlier, the Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC) demanded a statewide bandh and urged against holding elections.
Furthermore, the NPAC has asked ENPO to support the bandh; however, ENPO has not yet confirmed its involvement.
In a meeting on January 12, 2023, the Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC), which was attended by a number of tribal organisations and civil organisations, unanimously decided to call for a statewide bandh on January 14, from 6 am to 12 noon, as a protest against the excessive delay in delivering the long-awaited Naga political solution as promised by the GoI.
On the other side, fifteen tribal hohos (bodies) from Nagaland renewed their call on January 10 for the Indian government to resolve the long-running Indo-Naga conflict honourably and amicably before the state’s assembly elections and without further delay.
