Nagaland Chief Minister Urges Greater Electoral Participation on National Voters’ Day

Kohima: On National Voters’ Day, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio called for increased voter participation, emphasizing the shared responsibility of citizens in strengthening democracy.

He highlighted voting as both a right and a duty, celebrating it as a reflection of commitment to the nation’s future.

In a message shared on social media, Rio said, “This #NationalVotersDay, let us rededicate ourselves to greater & effective participation in the electoral process. Voting is not only a right but also a shared responsibility. It celebrates the strength of our democracy & reflects our commitment to shaping the Nation’s future.”

The occasion was marked across Nagaland with various events, including a state-level programme held at Patkai Christian College in Chümoukedima district.

Principal Director of School Education Thavaseelan K, speaking as the special guest, underlined the importance of youth participation in elections.

He urged young voters to vote responsibly and not be influenced by external pressures, emphasizing that each vote plays a vital role in strengthening democracy. He also encouraged the youth to inspire their families to engage in the electoral process.

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Polan John echoed similar sentiments, urging first-time voters to take an active role in shaping society. He stressed the importance of guiding the younger generation to make informed decisions and choose capable leaders.

Chief Electoral Officer Vyasan R detailed the comprehensive arrangements made to ensure smooth elections in the state. He acknowledged the contributions of teachers and police personnel in facilitating the process and administered the National Voters’ Day Pledge to attendees.

The programme also recognized and felicitated several first-time voters, encouraging them to embrace their responsibility in the democratic process. The day served as a reminder of the power of every vote in shaping the future of the state and the nation.
