Nagaland CM Rio To Meet 60 MLAs To Discuss Possibilities of Opposition-Less Govt

Guwahati: The 60 MLAs of the Nagaland assembly constituencies will sit for a meeting with chief minister Rio at 6 PM on March 18.

According to reports, an important meeting of NDPP MLAs took place today at 4 PM. After that, a decision about an opposition-free government will be made and then an NDPP-BJP meeting will follow.

The likelihood of a “opposition-less” government in Nagaland is still up in the air as the opening session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly draws near.

The coalition partners have not made a decision regarding the issue, despite the fact that the majority of political parties have pledged their unwavering support to the BJP-NDPP-led People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) administration.

BJP and NDPP are expected to meet in Kohima to examine the prospects for a government without an opposition on March 18. After the meeting, the BJP high command will make the ultimate decision in this regard.

The NDPP-BJP coalition won the Nagaland assembly elections by a sizable margin, winning 25 and 12 seats in the 60-member Assembly, respectively. The alliance’s agreement has been criticised by political observers and analysts in the state, who label it a mockery of democracy.

The parties behind the NDPP-BJP alliance “do not have any agenda for the people who trusted their leaders and are attempting to fulfil their own selfish objectives,” claims political expert Jonas Yanthan. Yanthan’s remarks bring to light the worries of many Nagaland residents who are concerned about the potential of a government without opposition.
