Nagaland Governor orders for closure of Checkgates

Guwahati: The Nagaland government has ordered the closing of all check gates save inter-state ones in a huge effort to stop unlawful money collection from vehicles.

The order comes following the directive of the Governor to ensure that all checkpoints in the state are closed.

The State Home Department issued a notice ordering the closing of all police check gates as well as check gates set up by other departments, such as the Municipal and Town Councils.

According to the directive, only interstate check gates put up by the concerned departments will be allowed to operate until May 31st, after which authorisation will be required for their operation.

The order also prohibited any organisation, group, or private individual from closing checkpoints.

The fact that all Deputy Commissioners have been required to receive regular updates from Inspection teams twice a month to determine whether there is complete compliance shows that the administration is serious about implementing the directive.
