Nagaland’s First Medical College, NIMSR, Inaugurates Inaugural Class

NorthEast Desk, 7th September: In a significant milestone for Nagaland, the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) has officially opened its doors, welcoming its first batch of 100 MBBS students in a recent induction program.

Dr. Soumya Chakraborty, the dean-cum-director of NIMSR, disclosed that out of the 100 students, 85 are from Nagaland, while the remaining 15 hail from various parts of the country.

Speaking at the induction program held at the newly inaugurated Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences, Chief Secretary J Alam emphasized the event’s significance as the commencement of a new academic session and the realization of a long-cherished dream for the state – the establishment of a medical college. The induction ceremony took place at the NIMSR academic block in Phriebagie, Kohima.

Alam urged the 45 faculty members to contribute to the development of an exceptional institution. He also encouraged the students to work diligently, underscoring their future roles in addressing healthcare disparities and impacting numerous lives, aligning with the government’s commitment to universal healthcare access.
