Nagaon Court Posts Matter for June 26 and 27 in Abhi-Nil Mob Lynching

Guwahati, 12 June: The next hearing in relation to the 2018 mob lynching incident of Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das was set for June 26 and 27 by the Nagaon District and Session Court on Monday. The lower court recorded the statement of the final witness or 71st witness in the case earlier today after 48 accused who had been arrested in connection with the case were brought before the court.

The case was initially heard in Diphu court but after the parents of the victims filed a writ petition, the court’s business was moved to Nagaon court.

It should be noted that on June 8, 2018, a mob ruthlessly murdered Nilotpal and Abhijit at Dokmoka in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

The district police has an 844 page chargesheet, a 104 page case diary and two cases under the IPC 302, 341, 427, 143, 144, 149 and CRPC 109 that have been filed. To expedite the investigation into the shocking lynching of two youngsters in Guwahati by a mob, the Assam Police Department formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The nation was outraged by the brutal murder of two Guwahati youths by a mob in the area of the Kangthilangso waterfall in the Karbi Anglong district.
