Nagaon District Administration to Carry out Eviction Drive in Batadrava

Guwahati: The Nagaon district administration is planning an eviction drive on encroached land in Dhania Bheti Lalung hamlet in Nagaon district’s Batadrava.

A large number of police officers were observed moving towards the village earlier in the day. The police are currently stationed at the Dhania Bheti Village as part of the eviction process.

While the police administration plans to expel the encroachers, some of them are departing the land themselves.

Earlier in May 2022, tensions rose in Batadrava as the district administration launched an eviction effort in response to the May 21 occurrences of violence in the region.

Notably, on May 21, people upset over the death in custody of one person detained at the police station set fire to the Batadrava police station.

On May 22, three homes belonging to several of the main suspects in the violent outbursts that led to disorderly scenes at the Batadrava police station were demolished.

According to accounts, media personnel were not permitted near the eviction location.

Outraged at the death of a person in police custody, residents set fire to the ancient police station building. They also threw stones at the glass panes of an adjacent freshly erected building, inflicting extensive damage.
