NDA’s Northeast By-Poll Wins Boost Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s 2026 Poll Optimism

Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) robust performance in the recent northeastern by-polls, highlighting victories in Assam and Meghalaya as pivotal political achievements.

Speaking to reporters on November 24, Sarma described the results as a testament to the BJP-led coalition’s growing influence in the region and a strong momentum-builder for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

“We have maintained our winning streak,” Sarma remarked, reflecting on the BJP’s consistent success in Assam. He underscored the significance of this electoral performance, emphasizing, “This result has given a big boost on the eve of the Assembly election, as the Assembly election in Assam will be held in April 2026, and after this, there will be no by-election.”

The BJP’s victories extended beyond Assam, with Meghalaya’s ruling National People’s Party (NPP), led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, also achieving notable success. Sarma highlighted this outcome as a significant recovery, stating, “In the backdrop of the Lok Sabha election, where we were almost routed in Meghalaya, I believe this is a good comeback.”

Reiterating the BJP’s expanding regional presence, Sarma took to social media to express his optimism. In a post on X, he noted, “Not just in Assam, even in Meghalaya, BJP has made significant gains in the recently concluded by-elections.”

The by-poll victories come at a critical juncture for the BJP and its allies as they seek to consolidate their influence ahead of upcoming state and national elections. Sarma’s remarks signal a confident roadmap for the coalition’s continued regional dominance.
