NIA Arrests Most Wanted Criminal Hannan Mia in Tripura, Transports Him to Guwahati
Northeast Desk, 20th May: In a significant breakthrough, a three-member special team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken custody of 40-year-old Hannan Mia, a most wanted criminal, from Tripura. Mia, known for his involvement in international human trafficking and other illegal activities, is being transported to Guwahati to be produced before the NIA special court.
The successful operation was initiated by Officer-in-Charge of Bishalgarh Police Station, Rana Chatterjee, who led a special operation on Sunday to detain Mia. Speaking with reporters, Chatterjee explained that Mia had a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for his capture, declared by the NIA. “Based on a tip-off, we conducted a special operation and arrested Mia. He has connections with international human trafficking and exploited teenage girls in prostitution rackets, forging Indian documents, among other illegal activities,” Chatterjee said.
Following the arrest, the Tripura Police notified the NIA. A three-member team from the NIA then arrived from Guwahati, obtaining a four-day transit remand to present Mia before the special NIA court. “Today, the NIA officials are en route to Guwahati with Hannan Mia from Agartala and will produce him before the special NIA court,” Chatterjee added.
This arrest underscores the collaboration between local authorities and the NIA in combating serious crimes and ensuring justice.
