NIA Court Posts Akhil Gogoi’s Hearing for Feb 28

Guwahati: Leader of the Raijor Dal and an MLA from Sivasagar in Assam Akhil Gogoi appeared before the special NIA court in Guwahati on Thursday in relation to two cases that were brought against him during the violent anti-CAA protests that took place in Assam in December 2019.

He was asked to go before the NIA court today. The hearing in the cases brought against him is over and the court has deferred judgement.

According to sreports, the Supreme Court will consider Akhil Gogoi’s bail request on Friday before scheduling another hearing in the case for February 28.

Further proceedings from the NIA in the matter will take place only after the Supreme Court hearing.

The Assam government has appealed to the Gauhati High Court to look into the cases brought against the Sivasagar Legislator and today Akhil Gogoi was required to appear before the NIA court. The high court had instructed the NIA court to reopen the matter in light of the appeal.

It should be recalled that the Supreme Court had previously ordered against additional arrests of Akhil Gogoi in connection with the subject while the case was still pending.
